Hue Tourism College has received substantial assistance from the Goverment of Luxembourg as part of its bilateral Development Cooperation Program. Since May 2000 Luxembourg has provided assistance via its Development Agency Lux – Development to build and equip the school as well as edit and validate a National Training Curriculum.

Luxembourg Development Cooperation also supports a training program, providing yearly grants for a group of 10 promising Vietnamese students and teachers to study abroad, at Luxembourg’s Hotel School, the lycée Technique Hôtelier Alexis Heck. The deputy General Manager of Villa Hue is one of the former students to have reaped its benefits. This “twinning arrangement” is carried further by a number of teachers from Luxembourg assisting with short summer classes in certain specialty courses and examinations at hotel schools in Vietnam.

VIE/031  Strengthening of Human Resources in the Hospitality and Tourism Sector in Vietnam

This project as almost all LuxDev projects, is financed by the Luxembourg government and supports the tourism sector in Vietnam. The project mainly seeks to  strengthen capacity building in order to produce the same quality of human resources at international level for every student. So far, the project concentrates on improving practical training facilities which will allow tourism training to become fully responsive to industry needs. The schools should also be able to generate revenue, which is critical for the long-term sustainability and survival of quality tourism training.

Furthermore, the project aims to consolidate the outputs obtained up to this day as well as disseminate the good practice acquired in the new hotel schools.

The proposed overall objective of this project is to strengthen human resources in the hospitality sector of Vietnam and the proposed specific objective is to further the capacity of the hotel schools in Hue, Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau and Hanoi to deliver quality training as well as to propagate best practices in newer hotel schools in Danang, Dalat, Nha Trang, Hai Phong and Can Tho.

The project rests on two pillars:

  • The improvement of hotel management as well as the management and operation of hospitality schools in Vietnam;
  • Adapt the quality of teaching and academic standards to the needs of the hospitality sector and update these in line with the national policy and government regulations.
